KenteFest Destination Birthday Event

Joseph has a deep appreciation and love of African culture. When his wife Tasha came to us with plans to kidnap him to Orlando, Fl to get him away from work and plan a special birthday party for him, we knew we wanted to use that as inspiration. Inspired by Joseph’s love of patterns and that culture, our journey led us to design a: KenteFest. We focused on bringing in the craftsmanship, colors, and textures that represented the spirit of that region mixed in with modern, fun touches, including a large balloon installation that expanded from size to size of the house and all the way to the second floor. The Jacuzzi and pool were the centerpieces of the house we were working on, so we transformed it to create a floating installation as a focal point of the floor plan design. As the night felt, the changing lights of the pool allowed the impact of the floating piece to increase.

Beautiful birds of paradise lend their vibrant color and exotic shape to the centerpieces to bring about a sense of natural beauty to frame the pool. For this more intimate section of the party house, we did a take on an artisan object museum display. We bridged the distance you feel in museums by removing the glass walls and bringing the object to live with flowers and decor so that you could sit or walk and absorb the details and flavor of the culture.

As part of the entrance into the pool, we set up a KenteFest inspired accessory bar for the guest to add touches to their outfit and take them home as favors. To kick off the party, we arranged for a cultural drum and dance performance from the Animal Kingdom Performance team, and they did a fantastic job at delivering a dose of wild, joyful spirit for all the guests to enjoy.
