Judge Atkins’ Retirement Cocktail Party

Welcome to Florida’s 2nd Judicial Circuit Judge Augustus D. Aikens, Jr. Retirement Cocktail Party. In November, the City of Tallahassee celebrated his retirement, which also doubled as the official renaming ceremony of the Leon County Courthouse in his name, suggested and planned by his peers as a surprise to honor his outstanding career as the longest-serving judge in Leon County and his legacy of integrity and dedicated service to the community.
We had the honor of working closely with his daughter Tara and granddaughter Kara to plan a more personal Studio Heart retirement cocktail party following that last night for him to enjoy and celebrate with close friends and family.
For this project, we transformed the Challenger Learning Center into a modern indoor courtyard with 4 tall pillars of balloons to balance the room’s tall ceilings. This design aimed to create an elegant cocktail-style reception that balanced classic and modern abstract elements to create a sophisticated, relaxed environment. Tables of gold and black surrounded the pillars to make the four anchor points for the floorplan—an oversized backdrop set the stage for the room. Clean flower touches, tall, elegant navy candleholders, and gold metal centerpieces with black touches adorned the tables to create a space perfect for socializing and celebrating the man of honor.
