Welcome to Laura’s Passport to Heaven, a joyous celebration of her vibrant life and the happiness she brought to all who knew her! This event was not about mourning but about celebrating the wonderful person Laura was. As part of the #StudioHeartFamily, Sheila contacted us to organize a “FUNeral’ for her mom, Laura. We immediately agreed as we felt a personal connection to Laura through Sheila’s heartfelt stories about her. Laura was a free-spirit, outspoken, charismatic lover of all types of music, from opera to Guardians of the Galaxy, and had extensive records with an odd sense of humor. She loved to travel worldwide: Africa, India, Spain, and the USA. Laura loved cooking and baking and eating all kinds of food and all types of Wines & Spirits. She loved volunteering with kids and helping people. We brought together elements from her adventures to create Laura’s Wonderland.
Her travels from India inspired the design of the event. We used marigold garlands to create a canopy ceiling. The event featured two extensive collection displays showcasing items from her trips to Africa, Spain, India, and throughout the USA. Her favorite books, a vast collection of musical records, and memorabilia, such as her flute, collectible car, and volunteering badge, became part of the centerpieces. Smaller versions of these displays were placed throughout the rest of the tables so everyone could glimpse Laura’s vibrant life no matter where they sat. Her favorite Wine & Spirits were set up for anyone to try a drink during the event with the selection of international foods or take-home and enjoy a drink in her honor later on. The overall colorful and fun setup matched Laura’s visions of life and evoked a joyously chaotic feel contagious to everyone who knew her.
